“Ordinary people can do extraordinary things, so long as they are organized, so long as they are mobilized, so long as they are UNIONIZED”

-Barack Obama

CHOICE we can believe in

When it comes to life at work, BARACK OBAMA knows about the importance of CHOICE. In 2007, in addition to his statement above, he said:

“We need to strengthen unions by letting them do what they do best—organize workers. If a majority of workers want a union, they should get a union. It’s that simple.” *

CHOICE is about having a say on the issues affecting you at work. CHOICE is about whether you want to be recognized for the work you do. CHOICE is about whether you want to have the same rights and entitlements as other workers at Ryerson University.

Ryerson part-time workers and work-study students deserve the same rights and entitlements as their full-time colleagues. By voting YES for OPSEU on March 8, you will take the first step towards achieving those rights and entitlements. You will have a voice that will make the workplace even better, both for you and part-timers to come.

On Monday, March 8…
Vote YES for OPSEU.

(Don’t take our word for it: here’s what Barack Obama thinks about unions.)

    Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I am a full time OPSUE/Ryerson Employee memeber
I must respectfully object to using an American (regardless of greatness) on our Ontario CANADA p/t members drive.

While I recognize the current adoration for this fine President – I am hopeful we have an equally great Canadian rep we could also use.

I am truely saddend by our use of a Non Union/Non Canadian spokesperson.

    Lets do better next time

    Thank you

I hear what you’re saying but as someone who is 21 years old with little knowledge of what unions are, i found it helpful to see someone like Obama stand up for working people and students especially.

As a union, isn’t it your policy to support all workers and allies regardless of where they are from or what they look like. What about the Stanley Knowles Humanitarian Award that OPSEU gives to non-Ontarian and non canadian activisits like Nelson Mandela and Cesar Chavez? They are not Canadian but they still do great work and OPSEU supports them.

Personally, I dont know think that the labour movement today is full of exciting role models…how can we inspire people when young people don’t even know what unions are and don’t care. You need to start somewhere. And i think Obama is a good start.

So much for having my voice heard! You deleted my previous comment for no good reason! This is completely ridiculous.

    Hi Jo Schmo,

I’m sorry but we never received your previous comment. What would you like to say? You can re-post it if you want.

    Cheers, Kiera.
